Happy New Year!

happynewyearcolts

For the New Year’s celebration, I’ll be kicking it here at home. My daughter has a nasty cold, so babysitters are out. This has, however, given me some time to shop online New Year’s Eve sales for equestrian equipment while sipping some bubbly.

Post Christmas, there are some great deals, so if you have a moment between parties, check ’em out.

Need new muck boots? Normally, these Noble Outfitter’s Ladies MUDS are over $100, but you can get them at Dover Saddlery for 39.95, and yes, there are multiple sizes and colors still available.

NobleOutfittersBoots39.95

This is an adorable vest by Riding Sport at Dover, normally $40 on sale for $14.99, pretty great price for a pretty quilted vest. Different colors and sizes available (this one matches the boots).

It seems as if we’ve had (at least here on the East Coast) more days of rain than anything else. I’m about to build an arc…anyway, this rain jacket (it’s men’s, but I’m sure anyone can wear it. Beval Saddlery regularly $199 on sale for $49.99 – pretty good!!

If you’re looking for something for your four legged friend(s), like a new snuggly winter blanket or sheet, type on over to Statelinetack.com and you can shop their big blanket blowout. I found this really nice Tough-11200D Snuggit Tough blanket from $69.95 (normally $156):

And, if it’s not too late…try to go out and find this for your celebration or drink it at the barn with your buddies, Dark Horse Brut, $13.99.

Merry Christmas!

christmashorseandbaby

May your holiday be filled with love and happiness, and yes, maybe a horse or two :). We spent the days before Christmas with our buddies Chance and Ron, who didn’t complain that they got their presents a couple days early.  A belly full of candy canes kept Ronnie from wanting to work ;). Today, after a big present-opening extravaganza, our tummies will be treated to a prime rib roast (Happy Christmas to me), some hot toddies and old-timey Christmas music. Nothing better.

Please share how you spend Christmas with your family (or post videos/pictures) in the comments – I love to hear different family traditions.

Fall Talls

Christian Louboutin Cate Chain Riding Boots $1295
Christian Louboutin Cate Chain Riding Boots $1295

It’s fall and there’s no shortage of wonderfully equestrian inspired tall boots. I’m so happy that we can wear tall boots year after year; they are basically timeless. English or Western, these will be sure to please the pony princess or cowgirl in all of us little ladies.

No riding in these boots, purely for pretty, so keep them away from the poo pile 😉

What I love about real Western riding boots, they can be worn as fashion. It’s pretty clear that I’m wearing real riding boots when I go to the store in my dirty Ariat Challengers. I have a pair of Tony Lamas, and they look just as great with my skinny jeans out on the town as they do in the ring doing work. These riding boots (except the Tony Lamas) haven’t been approved in the saddle, but will look cool with a skirt, skinny jeans, flair jeans (the newest old trend making a comeback), and shorts (if you’re under the age of 35).

Many of these boots are rather expensive, so think of this an an investment piece. Tall riding boots are classic.  With proper treatment (care for them like you care for your riding boots) and you can wear them for years to come.

A Wellington for Everyone’s Taste (Not your Grandpa’s Rubbers)

You know what I meant…those old black things that covered Grandpa’s shoes in the rain!! 😉

Anyway, Since the recent renaissance of Hunter, wellington boots have taken over the ubiquitous UGG boot for casually fashionable women, it girls and oh yeah, practical women’s rain gear. I love my Hunter boots, but I think it’s time for a migration to something different this year. The good old rubber boot has had some fun incarnations over the past couple of seasons, and this fall proves to be no different.

The Ariat STORM STOPPER

A wonderfully waterproof boot, with leather buckle details, it has space for a spur and a heel, so it has been approved for riding. Versatile, you can get them in navy or brown. A must have wellington boot for riders; great for a muck or a buck. Wear warm wellie socks and you don’t need much else for the colder weather until it’s really sub zero time.

Ariat also has the MUD BUSTER Tall Boot for a nice wellington option but not as saddle ready. There is room for a spur, but the tred isn’t as advanced as the Storm Stopper. It’s a more traditional wellington option, available for men and women and in hunter green, black and navy. $129.99

For the more stylish wellie-lovers, I have to introduce the MoovBoot!

Not for heavy duty stall mucking, these are the Porches of the wellingtons. Shipped from Australia (orders over $150USD ship free), they come in a number of styles and heights. For those colder late fall days, they have a line of boots lined with 100%Australian merino. YUM. Sure to keep your feet warm and dry on even the dampest and slushiest of days. Great for you city girls looking for this year’s everyday boot trend.

For those of you looking for a regular wellington (not meant for riding), Joules makes some of the cutest around. Fun designs and different heights, they’ll be sure to have one that you or your little one will love.

Whichever one you select, you are sure to be happy!

Net-a-Porter.com Seamlessly Blends Fashion with Sport as Net-a-Sporter

Hi-end online retailer Net-a-Porter.com, understands that fashion and sport often go hand in hand. In this vein, they recently launched “Net-a-Sporter” (clever), featuring different sports and their appropriate attire. They included an Equestrian section, so they have not forsaken the horsey fashion-set, but they do need to expand their catalog. Currently, they carry some Ariat items, which are beautiful, but more of a selection would be great. This being said, they have some fun items in their “Apres” sport category, as well as some unique finds in their “Yoga and Dance”, “Golf” and “Tennis” areas, some of which are great for layering.

Equestrian Items –

Other Net-a-Sporter Selections –

What makes Net-a-Porter.com really wonderful, is their friendly customer service, fast shipping and easy returns. If you live in NYC (or surrounding areas), there is a same-day delivery service, for a $25 fee. Fabulous :).

Tory Burch’s Take on Tack

One of my favorite preppy brands, Tory Burch, has gone more ornate for fall.

Lux and detailed, obviously inspired by equestrian themes, she hit the ball out of the park. I love all these looks. From shirts to boots, any well-dressed horse lover can find something Tory to wear this season. When I saw the WWD.com runway report last February, I was excited to find these cute clothes for sale. Now, I just need to wait for a sale ;)!

My favorites from the runway show report (pictures thanks to WWD.com)
